Earthship Academy Week 1

Today is exactly 2 weeks since Tony left, and the end of week 1 of his apprenticeship at the Earthship Academy in Taos, New Mexico.

I just received a series of emails containing photos of the week.  I’ll post some to the Photo Stream section- when Tony’s back we can edit and add descriptions to them.

We spoke on the phone today for the first time in several days.  Being off grid for the majority of time is changing our pattern of communication.  Usually when Tony is away the last thing we do each night is talk to each other; this last week may be long longest we’ve gone without speaking to each other… EVER!

Tony and three other guys (also attending the Academy) are sharing a one bedroom Earthship.  It is one of the original ones on Taos, completely off grid and in slight disuse/disrepair from not being lived in for the past couple of years.  After class each day, the four guys head off from school to their Earthship to share cooking/cleaning of supper and their daily experiences in class.  The seven kilometers of road’s a little rough.  But look at the beautiful mud!

Check out the tire ruts that have formed over the years. Reminds me of the ruts from the covered wagon wheels.

Tony is so excited and sure we are on the right path.  I am certain this experience is going to change his view of the world, and our role in it. Our conversation today was about change, the range of people participating from everywhere in the world.  I can almost hear the chatter and patter in the many tones and cadence that come from a diverse group.  I think there are about sixty students in total.
