About Us
Life at the Doighouse- where people, nature & creativity come together.
Welcome to the Doighouse Earthship!
We are Susan and Tony, and we are deeply passionate about sustainable living. In 2014, we stepped onto our property in Vancouver Island’s beautiful Lighthouse Country and instantly felt like we had come home. After years of being intrigued by Earthship architecture—including Tony travelling to Taos, New Mexico, to study the craft—we set out to adapt Mike Reynolds’ radically sustainable designs for our own local temperate rainforest climate.
With our kids grown and the house a bit quieter—aside from Mabel, our expert mouser cat—we are finally living our dream of building a net-zero home, farm, and learning centre. Opening our doors to visitors from around the world is the joy of this project.
The Doighouse is our ongoing exploration of low-impact, off-grid living. Hand-crafted from recycled materials, natural earth, and salvaged treasures, our dwelling is intentionally engineered to honour both a 100-year timeline and all modern building codes.
We love bringing together professionals, enthusiasts, and curious minds for hands-on workshops and intimate tours. This project is fueled by our love for the planet, its people, and the joy of sharing abundance. Whether you are looking for an inspiring stop on your Vancouver Island road trip, a quiet place to camp, or just a friendly conversation, we hope you’ll drop by for a visit, a chat, or a tour.
Warmly,
Susan & Tony
